Facebook changing their name to Meta
Facebook has changed its corporate name to Meta as part of a major rebrand.
The company said it would better "encompass" what it does, as it broadens its reach beyond social media into areas like virtual reality (VR).
The change does not apply to its individual platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp, only the parent company that owns them.
The move follows a series of negative stories about Facebook, based on documents leaked by an ex-employee.
Frances Haugen has accused the company of putting "profits over safety".
In 2015, Google restructured its company calling its parent firm Alphabet, however, the name has not caught on.

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg announced the new name as he unveiled plans to build a "metaverse" - an online world where people can game, work and communicate in a virtual environment, often using VR headsets.
He said the existing brand could not "possibly represent everything that we're doing today, let alone in the future", and needed to change.
What is a metaverse?
"Over time, I hope that we are seen as a metaverse company and I want to anchor our work and our identity on what we're building towards," he told a virtual conference.
"We're now looking at and reporting on our business as two different segments, one for our family of apps, and one for our work on future platforms.
"And as part of this, it is time for us to adopt a new company brand to encompass everything that we do, to reflect who we are and what we hope to build."
The company also unveiled a new sign at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California, on Thursday, replacing its thumbs-up "Like" logo with a blue infinity shape.
Mr Zuckerberg said the new name reflects that over time, users will not need to use Facebook to use the company's other services.
The word "meta" comes from the Greek word meaning "beyond".

To an outsider, a metaverse may look like a version of VR, but some people believe it could be the future of the internet.
Instead of being on a computer, people in a metaverse might use a headset to enter a virtual world connecting all sorts of digital environments.
It is hoped the virtual world could be used for practically anything from work, play and concerts, to socialising with friends and family.
Facebook said it intends to start trading it shares under the new stock ticker MVRS from 1 December.

What’s all this about then?

Name change to "BraggBook", "FakeBook" or NarcissistsRUs" even? That would seem far more appropriate and perhaps better describe the psychological problems that are on view ? I suppose anything designed to fit American cultural traits like self promotion, attention seeking, desperately selling oneself and being pretentious was always going to be cringeworthy. It seems to appeal particularly to people with low self esteem or those looking for validation? Everyone lying, or at best, being disingenuous with their "likes" so they can amass as many as possible themselves.

I'm sticking with WHO, full of cvnts ( including myself of course) but their our cvnts :-)

If you like a conspiracy, look up lifelog which was created and funded by DARPA.

Look at the day it closed down, and the day facebook launched.

Meta Probe is an investigative space probe featured in the pilot episode "Breakaway". Designed to transport a two-person crew to an uncharted planet, "Meta", which is passing through the outskirts of the Solar System and is thought to harbour intelligent extraterrestrial life, it is due to be launched from Space Dock in September 1999

The mission to Meta is postponed when the crew seemingly contract a virus, later dying on Moonbase Alpha (although the cause of death is subsequently revealed to be "magnetic radiation" emanating from nuclear waste disposal areas on the Moon's far side). With the arrival of a back-up crew, preparations for launch resume, but both Meta Probe and Space Dock are lost when the disposal sites detonate and the resulting chain reaction forces the Moon from its orbit. Meta Probe is hurled into interplanetary space.

i use facebook marketplace to look at surfboards and unfortunately it often gives me a glimpse of the sad rump of depressing losers who still haunt that has been site screaming their boring shite into a void like a hair metal band playing pub gigs in the late 90s.

no wonder that cunt zuckerberg is tryin to rebrand it into some virtual nonce playground. he knows his market.

Re: Facebook changing their name to Meta
Am I supposed to pronounce it met-ah or me-tah? The former seems more logical but the latter fits the role of facebook replacement better.

Re: Facebook changing their name to Meta
Google did a similar thing a few years back didn't they?

Probably a tax dodge or a way to offset the growing backlash against them.

Facebook, Instagram and of course WHO are the cuntiest places on the Internet and should be fucking shut down for the good of future society.

Re: Facebook changing their name to Meta
All a crock of shit really, why spend millions on re branding etc? Got to be some reasoning behind it, surprised we haven’t been told this is some kind of Woke virtue signalling? And this has some kind of association or meaning to get snowflake generation back onside.

Cunts the lot of them.

As if meta wasn't a hideously overused cringeworthy modern term used by the biggest fuckwits this planet has ever spawned, Facebook adopt it with glowing pride.
